Your Coastal Base For Southern Adventures

For exciting experiences beyond the confines of Era Beach, our home of Sri Lankan hospitality in Thalpe offers convenient access to a number of attractions worth visiting during your stay on the southern coastline.

Emerging out of the nearby capital of our island’s southern province is the iconic Galle Fort – a grand piece of history that dates back to the 17th century. Proudly overlooking the bay of Galle, this legendary fortress is a magnificent symbol of our cultural heritage that must not be missed. On the other hand, the sunny coastal town of Koggala hosts a more discreet piece of southern culture in the form of Madol Duwa – uncommonly known as ‘Mangrove Island’ due to its fame from the book and film of the same name. A compact landmass upon the freshwater lagoon of Koggala, Madol Duwa served as the adventurous setting for its eponymous novel authored by the celebrated Sri Lankan writer, Martin Wickremesinghe.

Towards the shores of the Indian Ocean, the adjacent fishing village of Habaraduwa is home to a sea turtle hatchery dedicated to the preservation of the species. The facility also hosts a farm to ensure the turtles are nurtured within a safe environment. Just beyond the sandy shoreline, the waves of Ahangama and Midigama have long been favoured as two of the finest surfing spots on Sri Lanka’s south coast, while the seas beyond Mirissa are one of the best places in the world to witness blue whales and dolphins in their natural habitat.
